Digital X-Rays

X-rays are safe and are essential in identifying and diagnosing dental ailments that occur underneath the gums and bone. We utilize digital x-rays (coupled with a lead apron), which emit the lowest amount of radiation and are very safe for the patient.

The CariVu device is a zero-radiation option to detect cavities and fractures in teeth*. This is a wonderful option for children and people with small mouths and pregnant patients.

*Will not work with teeth that have metal fillings or crowns.

iTero Scanner

We utilize the iTero Scanner at our office for digital impressions for Invisalign and Crowns.

What is the iTero Scanner?

The iTero Scanner is a device used to make digital impressions. That means no “goop” or feeling like you are suffocating on impression material.

What can the iTero Scanner do?

With the iTero scanner the digital impressions can be used for Invisalign, crowns, implant crowns, bridges, veneers, retainers and night guards. We can also use the scanner to compare impressions over time to monitor tooth wear and shifting.

What are the benefits of the iTero Scanner?

The iTero scanner takes less time, there is less of a chance for distortion and having to retake impressions, no mess, no “choking” on impression material and lab case can come back faster. Also, it can be used with machines that make same-day crowns.

Why does Dr. Abernathy use the iTero Scanner?

Dr. Abernathy uses the iTero scanner because it is cutting edge technology and easy to use.

We recognize that a visit to the dentist may not be your favorite thing to do. But while you are visiting us, we want you to be as comfortable as possible. For your comfort, we offer chilled water, a neck pillow while in the dental chair, noise-canceling headphones and your choice of streaming movies or music. We also send text and e-mail reminders for your upcoming appointments.

Additionally, some treatment may require you to have anesthesia administered. Nobody likes that heavy, numb feeling-especially if you have to go back to work, eat or have a speaking engagement. We offer an anesthesia reversal agent called OraVerse* to speed up the wearing-off process of the anesthesia. Please let us know before we start your procedure if you are interested.
