But, I have dental insurance…

It is absolutely wonderful that you have a dental plan that will help you with the cost of dental treatment. Are you familiar with what your plan covers? A lot of consumers are not aware that dental insurance may not cover the full cost of their treatment and there are some procedures that are not covered at all! Dental plans are a contract that was negotiated by your HR department/plan administrator and is between the INSURED and the insurance company (not the DENTIST and the insurance company). You can generally choose between PPO and DHMO plans and many plans will cover $1000-2000 for the year. Depending on the procedure, 50-100% of the fee for a procedure may be covered by your plan. In the next few posts I’ll break down insurance from a very general perspective.
